and community.
Welcome to the Office of Testing Services
The Office of Testing Services is a unit within Appalachian's University College. University College consists of the university's integrated general education curriculum, academic support services, residential learning communities, interdisciplinary degree programs and co-curricular programming - all designed to support the work of students both inside and outside of the classroom.
The mission of the Office of Testing Services is to provide high quality testing and assessment services that observe nationally recognized professional testing standards in order to meet the growing needs of our students, faculty, administration and community.
We subscribe to the National College Testing Association Professional Standards and Guidelines. We are a member of the Consortium of College Testing Centers, supporting distance learning.
The Testing Center will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holidays November 25-29, 2009.
We will be open for computer based testing (GRE, MAT, CLEP and Praxis I) through Saturday, December 19, 2009 and reopen on Monday, January 4, 2010.
If you are testing on a home football game day, please plan on coming early to find parking. Street parking is free on King Street ONLY between the Baptist Church and Capones Pizza. You can also park in the "bike lanes" on Rivers Street which intersects the campus. There are also approximately 35 (30 min. but all day on Saturday) slots available in the College Street Parking Deck and more behind the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts. Please do NOT park in the Baptist Church Lot unless you are able to pay a parking attendant. Cars will be towed from there if no one is patrolling the lot.
If you are testing in the John E. Thomas Bldg., there are a few slots available behind the Holmes Convocation Center (closest to Hardees) and behind Katherine Harper Hall (next door to John Thomas). These are labeled "Faculty/Staff" Parking, but are open to anyone on the weekends. Also, if you identify yourself as a test taker in the JET Bldg. to the parking attendants, you may park in the Rivers Street Parking Deck.

PRAXIS II Test Dates
The PRAXIS II, Subject Area Assessments, will be administered here on campus on the following Saturdays for 2010: January 9, April 24, June 12 and July 24. There is an additional test date on March 13, 2010; however, we will not be participating in that administration due to the Spring Break schedule.
Prospective test takers MUST register for the PRAXIS II on the PRAXIS Website. These tests are all paper and pencil tests and will be administered in the Old Belk Library Classroom Bldg. which is now renamed "Anne Belk Hall."
Please note that beginning with the September test date, stand by testing will no longer be an option. Registration deadlines are usually one month before testing, with a late registration deadline (additional fee of $45) of one week later. "Emergency Registration" replaces the standby option and can be done online up to one week before the test date with an additional fee of $75. Please check the PRAXIS website for specific registration deadlines.
