The National Institute for Automotive Excellence is an independent, non-profit organization offering a testing and certification process for automotive professionals.  Additional information including appointment availability, cost, and registration details for the tests offered by ASE can be found here.

The College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP®) gives you the opportunity to earn college credit for what you already know with qualifying scores on one or more of the 34 CLEP examinations. These exams test your knowledge of introductory college-level subjects. Additional information including Appalachian State University’s qualifying scores and credit requirements can be found here.  

You can register and pay for your CLEP® exam at the College Board CLEP® website, then schedule your exam time by calling the Appalachian Testing Center directly at 828-262-6801.  We administer CLEP® exams Monday through Friday with appointment times determined by seat availability.There is a $25 proctoring fee payable by check or cash on the day of the exam. 

For students enrolled in an online course, the Appalachian State University Testing Center offers proctoring services at the request of either the instructor or online program coordinator. Students who require this service should notify the course instructor or program coordinator to contact us at testingsrvcs@appstate.edu in order to arrange for your proctored exam. Non-ASU students are required to pay a $25 proctoring fee, payable by cash or check, on the day of the exam.

The Graduate Management Admission Test is a computer-based test intended for use in the admission process for certain graduate management programs such as the MBA. The GMAT is offered year-round at our testing center on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. We occasionally offer this exam on Saturday mornings. Please check the Testing Center calendar for these special dates.

The Graduate Records Examination is a standardized, computer-based test that is an admissions requirement for many graduate schools in the United States. We administer this exam year-round on certain weekday mornings. Please refer to our Testing Calendar for the GRE dates and times.

The GRE® Subject Tests are achievement tests that measure your knowledge of a particular field of study and are taken by graduate school applicants to supplement their application material. 

We’ll be offering the GRE® Subject Test on October 29, 2022. Registration and additional information about the GRE can be found at https://www.ets.org/gre/subject/about.

ISO-Quality Testing, Inc. (IQT) offers secure, user-friendly exams to meet the needs of a broad number of licensing and certification organizations. The Appalachian State University Testing Center administers IQT exams year-round on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The Law School Admission Test (LSAT) is an important component of the law school admissions process. This national exam is only offered on specific dates each year. Please check the Testing Center calendar for the dates on which we will be offering these exams. For additional information and registration details please visit https://www.lsac.org/lsat.

The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is a standardized computer-based test that is often used for graduate schools admissions in the United States. The Office of Testing Services administers the MAT every Monday-Friday between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm depending on availability. In addition, we test one Saturday morning per month during the school year, but seating is limited.

Pre-registration is required and can be accomplished by calling the Testing Center at (828) 262-6801. Test takers must bring valid government-issued photo ID and payment for the $75 fee at the time of testing. We cannot accept credit or debit card payments for this test, only cash or check (made out to Appalachian State University).

The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards has “engaged Pearson Vue to deliver the online assessment of National Board Certification at locations across the United States.”  The Appalachian State University Testing Center is an authorized Pearson VUE Select Testing Center and, therefore, one of the locations at which NBPTS candidates can take their assessments. During specific testing windows candidates can schedule their exam appointments through Pearson VUE at https://home.pearsonvue.com/nbpts.

Credentialing assessments prepared by the Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE) for the National Board for Certified Counselors are offered through Pearson VUE at the Appalachian State University Testing Center. Candidates can find additional information and register for these exams at the Pearson VUE CCE page found at https://home.pearsonvue.com/cce. These exams are offered during specific testing windows, and seats are limited. Candidates are encouraged to schedule their exam well in advance in order to reserve a seat during the testing window.

Praxis tests are computer-based tests designed to measure teaching candidates’ knowledge and skills prior to program entry, licensing, and certification. Praxis®  Core exams are offered on many weekdays at 8:00 a.m. Praxis®  Subject Assessments and Principles of Teaching and Learning tests are frequently offered during specific testing windows. Castle Worldwide, Inc. recently joined Scantron Corporation and “provides testing and training design, development, and delivery services to certification and licensure organizations, corporations, educational institutions, government agencies, and trade and professional associations.” We are an approved Castle testing site and administer a wide variety of their computer-based exams for organizations ranging from the American Council on Exercise to the NC Office of EMS. The TOEFL is a computer-based test that measures English-language proficiency in candidates for school admission and immigration purposes. The Appalachian State University Testing Center hosts TOEFL exams approximately one day per month.
